So many people ask me "How
often should I get a facial?" I always say, "it's not the frequency,
it's the fact that you're doing it. You'll feel clean, fabulous and your skin
will thank you"
1.
Fact: Our skin is the largest organ
and unfortunately the most neglected.
2.
Skin analysis: "You need
an expert to analyze what's up"? The only way to get a true
picture of what's happening with your skin is through your skin guru (aka
esthetician). Many people believe that they have one skin type, when in reality
they are completely wrong. For example, someone may believe that they
have oily skin when they actually have dehydrated skin. When your skin is
dehydrated, it will produce more oil. There is a difference between oil
and water.
3.
Exfoliation: During a facial
you will get the proper exfoliation that you need, whether your skin guru uses
a mechanical form (scrub, Clarisonic) or chemical form (enzyme or acid).
Our skin can hold up to fourteen layers of dead skin! Yuck! So when you are
applying product it is unable to reach your live skin and feed it.
4.
Massage: A facial massage
stimulates blood flow to your skin that helps feed the skin and remove
toxins. And let’s face it, it feels good!
5.
Feeding your skin: After the
exfoliation and massage, much needed nutrients are added to your skin.
Since all that nasty dead skin is gone, the product will actually do its job.
6.
Products: Get the products
that work for you! If your skin guru is doing his/her job, he/she will
recommend a skin care regimen for you. In this case, you really do get
what you pay for. If you want to buy drug store brand products, you will
get drugstore brand results. Investing in your skin doesn’t have to cost
you your first-born. There are many professional skin care products that
will fit into your budget.
7.
Pampering: At the end of the day we
can all use some pampering, right??. In tandem, your skin is getting the
nutrients it needs to look its best while you're taking one solid hour for
yourself to slow down, relax and take care of your most important first
impression--your face!
